Kidsday: If we could understand dog talk
Have you ever wondered what animals are saying in their own language? If so, you are one fascinating person who probably has an interest in animals. We personally are animal lovers and wonder about these things. We always wished that somebody would invent this animal translator device so we would be able to understand what animals are saying.
JWhen our dogs are barking loudly, we wonder what they are saying. Does the dog need food or water? Does he want a toy? If you go on a walk with your dog and meet another male canine, your dog could be saying to him in animal language, "Hi, my name is Fluffy, What's yours?" or even possibly, "I like you." We would understand dogs and listen more directly and give what they need if we had this invention.
Some movies have explored the idea of an animal translator. Dug, the mutt in the movie "Up," has an animal translator device around its neck that is also a collar. When Dug barks, the animal translator translates the bark into human language.
Animal translators could revolutionize the world if we had them. We could have a better understanding about animals, and how funny would it be if you could have a conversation with your own pet?

Have you ever been in a good relationship that ended in a bad breakup?
When dating, you feel like you can tell that person anything. But after your breakup, would you still want to be friends with that person? We informally surveyed seventh- and eighth-graders. They said they will not remain friends with kids who break up by texting, but in breakups that are done verbally, they would still be friends.
Breaking up by texting is an informal way to end a relationship. Texting is the easiest way to break up with someone because it allows you to do it without having to face the person. It is the coward's way out. It is no surprise that a person would not want to remain friends with someone who does not have the decency or respect to break up with you in person.
Even though a verbal breakup is harder to do, you have a better chance of staying friends with the person. It is more respectful to break up with someone verbally. It shows them that you care enough to tell them in person how you feel. If you liked someone enough to go out with them, then you should like them enough to break up with them face to face.
The bottom line is that how you treat a person determines whether you can maintain any type of relationship or friendship. If you handle things the right way, then perhaps friendship is possible.
