Kidsday: One Direction's 'Up all Night'

One Direction is the next global phenomenon. Hailing from the United Kingdom, this boy band consists of members Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne.

All five of the boys had originally tried out for "X Factor UK" to be single artists but were put together by the judges to be a band, forming One Direction. Viewers immediately took a liking to these fun guys and although they didn't win the "X Factor" competition, Simon Cowell had them signed with his record label.

They currently have three singles out and their impressive album, "Up All Night," was the fastest-selling debut album on the UK album charts of 2011. "Up All Night" will be out in the United States March 20, and I recommend you buy it.

The first song on the album is the hit single, "What Makes You Beautiful." This upbeat, positive and inspirational song can make any girl feel better about herself. The WMYB music video was released Aug. 19, and has an astounding 56 million views that are increasing every day. This song has a definite catch with a wonderful meaning.

"Gotta Be You," the second single, is about starting over and trying again. A slower song with striking melodies, this song really highlights their vocal talent. Their third single, "One Thing," is about having a huge crush on someone. They want the girl to realize they belong together. The "One Thing" music video is carefree and all five of them are in high spirits, joking around with one another.

The next track on the album is, "Up All Night," a song that makes you want to get up and dance! It's about enjoying life and partying. This song is definitely uplifting. The boys are going to go crazy and do everything they've wanted to do. This song couldn't be any more buoyant and appealing than it already is; no wonder why 1D chose it as the album name.

A personal favorite of mine is "Taken." It's raw and original. It displays the emotional struggle of getting over someone you once loved and moving on, only to find your previous love wants you back for all the wrong reasons. Although you want them back just as badly, you know they are jealous and being selfish.

"Everything About You" illustrates finding a girl who has all the qualities you've ever hoped for, similar to "One Thing." The exact opposite of those songs is "Same Mistakes." In that song, a couple has the same problems repeatedly and they realize that it's over because there's nothing they can fix.

"Up All Night," is a remarkable album, and the boys conveyed true emotion through their lyrics and lovely voices. With their radiant attitudes, adorable accents and mesmerizing smiles, these flawless boys will have girls from all over the world pining for them.

One Direction is on the right track.
