Long Island Juneteenth events for 2022

Several events are planned around Long Island to mark Juneteenth, including a street festival, comedy show and live music.
SOUTHAMPTON
Program: The Southampton African American Museum features a program 6-8 p.m. June 17 with author A’Lelia Bundles, whose great-great-grandmother, Madam C.J. Walker, was a pioneer in the Harlem Renaissance. A book signing and reception follows. RIVERHEAD
Music and a talk: Honor and celebrate Juneteenth with music, refreshments and an inspiring guest speaker 1-2:30 p.m. June 18 at the Riverhead Free Library, presented in partnership with the East End Voter Coalition and the Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force. Concert: Grammy-nominated artist Brian Owens will present a journey through soul music to honor the memory of Juneteenth at 7 p.m. June 19 at The Suffolk Theater in Riverhead. FIRE ISLAND

Comedy: Gina Yashere performs at an open house, noon-4 p.m. June 18 at the Arts Project of Cherry Grove community house that's part of the nonprofit’s Juneteenth celebration. Yashere’s show is also a benefit for the Okra Project, which provides food, therapy and other resources to black trans people. WYANDANCH
Street festival: The Wyandanch Public Library's annual Juneteenth celebration brings live music, performances including African drumming and dancing, plus vendors and cooking demonstrations noon-5 p.m. June 18 at S. 20th Street between Jamaica Ave. and Straight Path, which will be closed to traffic; 631-643-4848.
NORTHPORT
Walking tour: Join Ceylan Swenson on a walking tour that will offer attendees a new perspective on familiar locations and tell the stories of the generations of Black families who lived in and around Northport at 2 and 3:15 p.m. June 19. GARDEN CITY
Barbecue and screening: Adelphi University's Juneteenth celebration runs 3-9 p.m. June 20 featuring a hybrid in-person/virtual event that includes guest speaker Maurice Brian Henderson and live music. A barbecue and screening of the film "Miss Juneteenth" follows in the University Center; 516-877-4980.
GREENPORT
Performance: Award-winning poet of “Boneyarn” David Mills will act out some of Langston Hughes’ best-known works in a Juneteenth celebration 3 p.m. June 26 at the Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport, 631-477-0660, floydmemoriallibrary.org.
