A Logan, Utah man who pleaded guilty to felony animal torture for shooting a dog several times with an airsoft gun has been sentenced to six months in jail.

Emilio Deshun Hoy received credit for the 88 days he's already spent in the Cache County Jail. He was sentenced in Logan's 1st District Court Tuesday. The 22-year-old pleaded guilty last month.

Hoy was arrested Feb. 5 after investigators say they obtained video of him holding the Jack Russell terrier, Bean, upside down by its tail and shooting it in the face, body and testicles at close range on Christmas Eve.

Prosecutor Barbara Lachmar says she won't oppose requests by defense attorneys to reduce the count from a felony to a class A misdemeanor after Hoy successfully completes a probationary sentence.

Hoy apologized in court.
