Man finds puppies left to drown inside aquarium cemented shut
Matt Williamson made a shocking discovery when he found two puppies locked inside a glass aquarium near the bank of a creek in Hinds County, Mississippi.
Williamson was searching for his own lost dog when he stumbled upon the aquarium on Wednesday, the New York Daily News reports.
“As I got closer, I saw these eyes peering out at me and they looked pretty desolate, like they needed help,” Williamson said to WAPT 16 News of Jackson, Mississippi. The top of the aquarium had reportedly been cemented shut.
That’s when he realized the puppies had been left there to drown.
Williamson and the Hinds County sheriff’s department were able to successfully rescue both puppies before they suffered any life-threatening injuries.
The dogs were immediately taken to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, a shelter that cares for lost or unwanted animals, and are expected to make full recoveries and find loving homes.
“They were running a slight fever, about 103, or so,” the shelter’s director, Debra Boswell, said to WAPT 16 News. “Our standard procedure is to put them in a quiet place, No. 1, because of their temperature, and No. 2, their stress level.”
Both dogs will remain in isolation together for a few more days.
