It's opening day for Long Island's own baseball team, which is entering its 12th season in the eight-team Atlantic League and playing home games at the newly named Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip. The biggest offseason news was the signing of former Mets reliever Duaner Sanchez. Among those players returning: outfielder John Rodriguez, who signed with the Yankees in 1996 and went on to play with the St. Louis Cardinals. Friday's home opener is against the Bridgeport Bluefish -- the first 2,000 fans will receive Bobblehead figurines of Ducks manager Kevin Baez.
