National Mutt Day: 5 ways to celebrate

Celebrate the mutts in your community on Dec. 2.
National Mutt Day is Dec. 2 and there are plenty of ways to celebate!
According to nationalmuttday.com, in addition to celebrating mixed-breed dogs in shelters around the country, National Mutt Day’s objective is to bring awareness to these dogs that are desperately awaiting forever homes. To do your part, consider celebrating in these five ways:
1. Make a donation to a local shelter. Nationalmuttday.com says at least $5 will be appreciated and go a long way toward helping these pups in need.
2. Donate food and/or supplies. If you have a pet that has recently passed, consider donating leftover food to an animal shelter, or purchase a bag or two to give in the holiday spirit. And, given the cold temperatures coming, donations of blankets will help keep mutts warm and comfortable. Finally, toys will cheer these canines up and make them feel loved.
3. Volunteer to walk a dog. Shelters are unfortunately often overcrowded and understaffed and dogs don’t always get the individual attention volunteers would like to give them. You can help give them a little love by taking them out to explore the outside world and sniff around a little.
4. Spread the word. You can purchase clothing, canvas totes and collectible mugs on nationalmuttday.com and post a pic with the merchandise on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #NationalMuttDay.
5. Adopt a mutt. Help save a life and see how a mutt can enhance your own!
