Dogs are welcome to have their day at a number of Long Island destinations with outdoor spaces, some with amenities geared toward making their visit a little extra special.

Best bets for dog-friendly spots on Long Island

  • FOR AN ACTIVITY: Pawcasso Art Studio, Westhampton Beach, where dogs and their owners can paint together.

  • FOR A MEAL: The Refuge, Melville, where a Barkin' Brunch is held Sundays, May through September. 

  • FOR A DRINK: Blue Point Brewing Co., in Patchogue, where dogs and humans will enjoy a dog corner and lawn games. 

BREWERIES AND WINERIES

Here are some pet-friendly breweries and wineries that welcome well-behaved pups.

NORTH FORK BREWING CO.  

Leashed dogs are permitted. Brewery has a farm component where hops are grown for use in its beers with a true flavor of the North Fork.

BLUE POINT BREWING CO.  

Leashed dogs can relax outside at this busy brewery with a second-floor restaurant and taproom. The yard also features a dog corner, lawn games and beer garden-style tables.

PORT JEFF BREWING CO.

Leashed dogs can hang here with their owners, plus take advantage of on-site  water bowls and dog treats. Brewery has a tasting room and porch; several beers are available by tasting flight and pint.  

BRIGHT EYE BEER COMPANY  

Leashed dogs are permitted; water bowls are also put out for canine guests.  

RGNY

At this Riverhead vineyard, dogs must remain with their owners on a leash and outdoors.

LIEB CELLARS

Leashed dogs are permitted on the outdoor patio of this winery.

DESTINATION UNKNOWN BEER CO.

Leashed dogs are allowed in the tasting room. Food trucks are parked outside Friday through Sunday; live music on Friday nights.

LONG ISLAND SPIRITS

Leashed dogs are allowed inside and out and a water bowl is occasionally available. The tasting room specializes in spirits in tasting flights and cocktails are also served. Weekends offer live music and food trucks.


LENZ WINERY

Leashed, well-behaved dogs are permitted in both inside and outside areas.


DUCK WALK VINEYARDS

Leashed dogs permitted; both locations offer tasting rooms and event calendars.

RESTAURANTS

Many restaurants allow leashed dogs in their outdoor areas — and a few cater to their presence.

COACH MEETING HOUSE

You'll be able to bring your leashed pup to the courtyard area of this restaurant and tavern. The restaurant's menu features American food and a variety of frozen cocktails.  

LOVE LANE KITCHEN  

Leashed dogs are permitted outside at this restaurant serving American food with an eye on sandwiches and salads.

THE REFUGE  

Here, a Barkin' Brunch held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays is designed specifically with pups in mind. Dogs must be leashed during the event held on the outdoor patio, May 5 through September. Reservations recommended.  

THE SHED RESTAURANT

During warm weather, well-behaved dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio. Brunch and lunch are offered daily.

MAPLE TREE BBQ SMOKEHOUSE 

This pet-friendly restaurant offers water to dogs; guests are free to pass their leftovers down to their canine companions.

TOAST

Leashed dogs are permitted in outdoor areas at this coffeehouse that serves breakfast and lunch. Water bowls are available.

AMERICAN BEAUTY BISTRO

Well-mannered pooches on leashes can lap up a cool drink at water bowls found in the outdoor seating areas. The doggy menu includes $7 dishes such as grilled chicken, beef sliders, sausage and bacon plus $5 apples and carrot plates. The eatery's human menu features classic comfort dishes.

BUOY ONE

Both outposts of this seafood restaurant and retail market allow leashed dogs in outdoor seating areas.

LOCAL BURGER CO.

Dogs are allowed outside; water bowls available for visiting dogs. Restaurant and tavern serving gourmet burgers and upscale grill food.

SHAKE SHACK

Dogs allowed on patio; restaurants offer a Shack Burger dog biscuit and "Poochcini" vanilla custard dessert.

SWINGBELLYS

Barbecue restaurant that allows leashed, well-behaved dogs outside, water bowls available upon request.

HAMPTON COFFEE COMPANY

All five cafes are pet-friendly; water bowls are offered outside and free dog bones are available at the counter for outside dining.

THE ISLANDER

If you sit at an outdoor table and bring your leashed dog, the staff will bring Fido water. The American restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

PAWCASSO ART STUDIO

Guests who come to paint can unleash their dogs, who may sit next to their owners or in a dog bed. A young Jack Russell (Dewey) is available to hang and play with guests; treats and water are offered to dogs, who are welcome inside and out. There is also a boutique pet store on the second floor. Also, homemade dog treats for sale.
