Tragedy in a Hempstead garden

As you surely have heard by now, a Hempstead woman was killed Tuesday when, police say, she was struck by a van while mowing her front yard.
Rebecca Twine, 69, was a woman who enjoyed her garden, according to her son, Chauncey Twine. "My mother was really the kindest, just sweetest, most gentle person that you'll ever meet ... The simple things in life made her happy, like just planting flowers, a little gardening work that she would do in the yard. For her to die right in the middle [while] she was doing something that she wanted to do is just horrible," he told Newsday reporters.
Horrible, indeed. In addition to being a mother, Twine was an educated woman with four degrees, including a medical degree. For a while, she taught as a professor. But that's really all I know about her.
