Personal enrichment is a trend that's here to stay. Dive into a new skill, whether it be a language for that trip you plan to make in the future or fulfilling a dream of perfecting watercolor drawings.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, some of these classes have moved to Zoom while others are still in-house following CDC guidelines.

ART

Art League of Long Island

The Art League of Long Island holds a variety of art classes for beginners to more advanced. Classes range from drawing and watercolor, such as an Eastern Asian watercolor (15 sessions, $165) to oil painting (17 sessions, $400). Berger Brothers

Berger Brothers, a well-known camera shop among serious photographers, has classes from understanding your camera’s functions to taking great pictures of pets to telescope imagery of the stars. There is even a class that will take students to South Salem to photograph wolves. Classes run from $40 to $200 and are offered over Zoom and in person. Hofstra University

Hofstra University has all sorts of continuing education classes, from deaf studies to real estate licensing, but some classes have to do with writing and marketing, from writing news releases to marketing book camp for selling books. Nassau BOCES

Drawing for the Absolute Beginner, a six-week course starting Jan. 18 for $110 is one of many art classes available. Other classes offered are in writing fiction or nonfiction, interior design and photography. Classes are online. (1196 Prospect Ave., Westbury, 516- 622-6950, ed2go.com/nasboces)

Long Island Academy of Fine Art

For the serious artist, LIAFA teaches much like a regular art school, focusing on drawing and art portfolio classes. Most classes are $495 for 11 weeks, with select classes for teens. Gallery North

Classes are for all ages and are offered in many media forms: silk screening, block printing and figure drawing, as well as other printing and drawing subjects. Costs are usually between $40 and $300 based on length and type of course. All are in-house following CDC guidelines, but independent study programs are also offered. Stony Brook University

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Stony Brook University is offered via Zoom for those ages 50 or older. It features workshops by educators in areas of various subjects including poetry, American plays, science, analyzing President Abraham Lincoln’s speeches, and rock and roll. LANGUAGE

Spanish Classes Long Island LLC

All classes are taught via Zoom, with a new class for "absolute beginners" starting Jan. 14. Classes are broken into four levels each within beginner, intermediate and advanced. The lessons are based on a technique that is highly conversational, and new guests from different Spanish-speaking countries will be online to chat with students. Price is $150 for six classes. JP Language Institute

Ten language classes — including Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Arabic — are offered both in-house and online for beginners to advanced speakers. Classes are four to eight weeks long, once a week with small class sizes (usually three to seven students). These classes cover speaking, reading and writing. Tuition is about $500. DOROT

DOROT, a not-for-profit located in Manhattan, is making a push to serve Long Island senior citizens. A conversational French language class will be offered over Zoom for free, and technical support is offered for seniors who don’t know how to use Zoom so they can feel comfortable participating. Under its "University without Walls" connection, classes in Russian and Mandarin will be offered as well. Check the website or call for updated times and dates. Love Lane Kitchen

Baking Coach

Classes are held both in the Huntington location for $85 or by Zoom with a DIY kit for $59.95, or $39.95 for those who buy ingredients from a shopping list and join in. Here For You

A series of master classes will take place each month from January through June through the Ward Melville Heritage Organization. The first class, set for Jan. 29, is titled "The Power of Flowers" ($20). Participants will learn how to create their own winter floral arrangement. Other classes will range in topics from cooking to health, history, art and culture. Subscriptions for the entire series are $85 per person. ArtSea Studios

ArtSea Studios provides art enrichment classes for art students with both techniques and studying of famous artists. Children's classes, for example, are $200 for an eight-week session. Adult and teen classes are per session, from $35 to $80, depending on the class including wine glass painting, wood signs, acrylic pour paint and knitting blankets. Classes are in-house. Let’s Craft

Let’s Craft offers a wide variety of workshops, from woodworking to glass to signs to T-shirts. Because of COVID-19, the company is offering customized craft kit parties via Zoom; kits are tailored to the group’s needs (most are $20 to $40 each) and can be picked up. An instructor will lead a session. Parties can be in-house as well. Right now, Let's Craft is also offering lessons on how to use Cricut and Silhouette.
