BRIDGE GARDENS

Features 5-acre garden with a large herb garden showcasing culinary, medicinal, textile dye and ornamental herbs, perennial beds and borders with native and nonnative plants, ornamental shrubs and trees. Expanded vegetable garden, community gardens, and numerous educational workshops showcase low impact, sustainable landscape methods. Fridays at Six Music Nights feature live music July 19 and Aug. 23; Fridays at Four Tasting and Tour with local winemaker monthly through the summer. CLARK BOTANIC GARDEN

HOFSTRA ARBORETUM

Features Spread across the 238-acre campus, with a pinetum and a greenway. A sensory garden features tactile and aromatic plants at wheelchair level; the Sondra Rubin Mack garden, a New American Garden on the north campus, features easy-care perennials and a new bird sanctuary will open in time for the Fall 2019 semester. Gothic labyrinth made from 40 feet of circular granite with parterre and knot garden; take a self-guided tour or call to arrange tours. Fee Free; donations accepted

LIU POST COMMUNITY ARBORETUM

Features Formal gardens with more than 125 trees (71 species), labeled with horticultural facts and origin, self-guided walking trail (maps available online at liu.edu/arboretum). Fee Free.

LONGHOUSE RESERVE

Oct. 12-Nov. 23. Season April 27-Nov. 23. Features 16 acres of gardens highlighted with contemporary sculpture. Landscape features include a pond, allées and walks, dune garden and 1,000-foot hemlock hedge that follows boundaries of farm fields that occupied the site until it was abandoned for agricultural use in the 19th century. Collections of bamboo and grasses, irises, conifers and broad-leaved evergreens. Check website for directions, special events and workshops. Fee $15, $10 seniors, free to children through 12th grade; reservations required for special events and programs.

MADOO CONSERVANCY

MADOO CONSERVANCY, 618 Sagg-Main St., Sagaponack, 631-537-8200, madoo.org Hours Noon-4 p.m. Fri.-Sat. for self-guided tours. Season May 10-Oct. 12. Features The 2-acre organic garden incorporate the houses and studios of the late artist writer and gardener Robert Dash. Within the property, an encyclopedia of garden design, one can see a formal vegetable garden, a laburnum arbor, a 120-foot rose rill and a Chinese bridge crossing newly renovated ponds and many other gardens. Two historic houses, one from 1740 that has been restored and the other from 1850, are found within the landscape. Group tours by appointment. Fee Free, no strollers, no dogs.

OLD WESTBURY GARDENS
