June means one thing to berry lovers: It's time to head to the u-pick fields. The East End is filled with dozens of u-pick strawberry fields and according to Gail Glover, of Glover Farms in Brookhaven, "the fields look great this year. There's lots of blossoms on the plants and that signals a wonderful crop because blossoms turn into red, ripe, delicious strawberries."

At the Golden Earthworm Organic Farm in Riverhead, you'll find more than 10 varieties of strawberries including some with a tropical flavor and early season through late season berries featuring more fragrant strawberries.

"We're certified organic on the North Fork with berries growing for more than 35 years on our property," says owner Maggie Wood. "Our crop is right on time and we invite all to visit our storybook (actually featured in the book, "Little Farm by the Sea," by Kay Chorao) farm, with a long, tree-lined driveway leading up to our u-pick fields."

On your mark, get set, go! Here's a list of u-pick locations opening in June. Remember to call ahead and confirm that the fields are open, knowing that u-pick is always weather dependent.
