Strawberry picking season begins at Long Island farms

June marks the beginning of the season when red, juicy, sweet strawberries are ripe for the picking at Long Island farms.

At Lewin Farm in Wading River, owner Erick Lewin says people should come early "for the best selection because the picking season goes fast."

Another East End farm offering u-pick strawberry experiences, as well as sweet treats to try, is Fox Hollow Farm in Baiting Hollow.

“Pickers will find sweet, delicious, medium-to-large-size berries," owner Jeff Rottkamp says. “Stop by the ice cream shop to enjoy the strawberry shortcake sundae."

These locations are now open for picking.Remember to call ahead and confirm, as u-pick is weather-dependent.
