British entrepreneur Claire Morsman couldn’t take it anymore!

After seeing countless plastic bags (“urban jellyfish,” she calls them) floating past her houseboat, she realized making reusable cloth bags out of recycled fabric (curtains, duvet covers, clothes) would help diminish the problem. “Only I didn’t know how to sew,” she admits.

She asked “mum” to design a simple bag pattern, made the bag, “realized it was easy, and wanted to share the pattern with everyone,” she says. Get the free pattern (takes 20 minutes max to make, she promises) and join a sewing army from around the world that has produced and distributed some 64,000 bags since 2007; at morsbags.com.
