Attention bagel gorgers: Your outsize capacity for consuming bagels is about to bear fruit. The winner of Long Island’s bagel-eating contest will take home $500 — and bragging rights (if that’s the kind of thing you like to brag about).
The bagel battle, which entails eating whole plain bagels, is sponsored by Bagel Boss, the Long Island-based operator of a dozen bagel stores on the Island and in Manhattan. The contest is taking place at LaunchPad in Huntington from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Feb. 7 — Superbowl Sunday, to namecheck another food-centric event scheduled for the same day.
Registration is open to anyone over the age of 18. The deadline is Feb. 6 and the fee is $25.
Spectators are welcome, too. Before and after the main event there will be a show of bagel-themed art, decorate-your-own bagel and games such as bagel toss. The entrance fee is $10 for adults, $5 for kids under 12.
