This weekend, try one of these three recommendations — or all three.

Fall is the best time to visit the Hamptons: The celebrities have been replaced by pumpkin patches and the traffic has thinned out a bit, too. If your jaunt brings you as far east as East Hampton and you’ve got a yen for fish, command your GPS to take you to Bostwick’s Chowder House. No chef-y flourishes here, just terrific clam chowder (red and white), clams and oysters on the half shell, fried oysters and Ipswich clams, steamers and mussels, steamed lobsters and lobster rolls, both traditional (with mayo and celery) and warm, with nothing more than meat and butter. Casual in the extreme, Bostwick’s uses paper plates, and plastic cups and cutlery, but there’s beer and wine and a full bar.

Sometimes you just want to go to a neighborhood place where a slice of pizza looks familiar and the pasta comes with melted mozzarella and a shake of Parmigiana. Fitting the bill is Fanatico in Jericho, where the chicken Parm and Mama Mia Meatball Bowl dot a huge menu filled with Italian red sauce dishes. To break out of the box, go for a specialty fennel sausage pizza or a bloomin’ cauliflower arreganate. Full bar, plenty of parking, great for kids, won’t break the bank.

I know I ordered right when I crave dishes from restaurants I visited earlier in the week. That’s exactly what happened when I visited Sufiya’s Grill in East Meadow, the Persian restaurant that debuted a second location over the summer. My order wasn’t crazy — babaganoush served with house-made bread and the jujeh kebab with lemon and saffron. But both dishes were intensely savory, aromatic, roasted and delicious. If only I had leftovers.
