Four & Twenty Blackbirds, the cult Brooklyn pie shop, has opened a pop-up shop in Orient. Emily Elsen, who owns the bakery with her sister Melissa Elsen, said that a former colleague, Toby Bannister, had moved to Orient full time and had helped put together the satellite location. It occupies the little building next to the post office that used to house Nina’s Ice Cream Parlor.

Four & Twenty Blackbirds is known for its rustic pies, often unorthodoxly filled. The Orient shop will carry four or five varieties at a time. You might see strawberry balsamic, black-bottom spruce, salted-caramel apple or salty honey, a honey custard with sea salt on top. Whole pies are $38, slices are $5 to $8 and can also be enjoyed a la mode. Stumptown coffee is also available.

The shop was originally scheduled to be open Wednesdays through Sundays, both in the morning and in the evening (with a siesta in between), but the first weekend, the pies sold out in the first few hours. Updates on availability can be found on Instagram (@birdsblack) and on the website, birdsblack.com.

Four & Twenty Blackbirds is at 1010 Village Lane, Orient. No phone.

(If you happen to be in Brooklyn, the mother ship is in the newly fashionable Gowanus district at 439 Third Ave., Brooklyn, 718-499-2917.)
