Brownstone Brewing Company opens in Ronkonkoma

Brews, burgers and televised ball games are what's on tap at the new Brownstone Brewing Company in Ronkonkoma. The bar and grill, equipped with 19 TV screens, opened in mid-May in the past digs of Long Island Grill. While there's no brewing facility on premises, the place offers three of its own brews, made locally by a private brewmaster, in addition to 17 brews on tap, most of them from Long Island brewers. The menu, largely made up of American pub classics, was designed by owner Alin Belea, manager Kim Nelson and restaurant consultant Sinead Corcoran.
A recent dinner began with a more than respectable Caesar salad ($6.95). My Santa Fe burger ($12.95), which was supposed to be topped with guacamole plus roasted pineapple and jalapeño relish, arrived without the promised guacamole, which was soon cheerfully supplied. This was a very good burger — juicy, smoky and possessed of that all-important mineral edge. Its toppings were extraneous. Hand-cut fries, I learned, were not cut in house but rather by the meat supplier, WB Stockyard of Bay Shore. Smart move, since those fries had that nutty sweetness that bespeaks fine fresh spuds.
Also on the menu: chicken wings ($8.95), mac and cheese ($10.95 — a different variety offered daily) and a Reuben sandwich ($9.95), as well as milk shakes, spiked or “virgin” ($5.95 to $9.95). A ”burger and spiked shake“ special totals $18.95.
