Burger Village opens in Great Neck

Two new spots have upped the burger ante in Great Neck, where the grills are burning hotter than ever in four competing burger-centric restaurants.
Burger Village just opened in the former Jean Marie Patisserie & Bistro space on Middle Neck Road. “We are an all organic, healthy, eco-friendly establishment,” said co-owner Nick Yadav, whose brother, Vick Yadav, is chef. On the menu, featuring sustainably raised, hormone and antibiotic-free meat: A grass-fed beef burger ($9), elk burger ($9), ostrich burger ($13) and the black bean burger ($9). Also, hand cut fries ($3.99).
Do some of the choices, as well as the look and ethos of the place, seem similar to Bareburger, just a block away? Yadav isn't bothered by resemblances. "It’s not about having the same product but about how you make the same product,” Yadav said.
Two ostrich burgers within a block of one another? Battling elk burgers? Hard not to picture them locking antlers.
You’ll find another kind of burger menu on the northern side of town at the new Bistro Burger, a glatt kosher place owned by Yardena Gorge and her husband, chef Serge Gorge, a former owner the now-departed Bistro Grill in Great Neck.
“We are an American grill house specializing in burgers,” Yardena Gorge said, adding that the place is closed Friday night and reopens after sunset on Saturday night. On the list of signature burgers (each half a pound and served with fries or a salad): a Bistro burger ($12.95), a lamb burger ($15.95) and a turkey burger ($12.95). You can also get a simple 4-ounce burger for $4.95.
Also part of the competitive burger scene: Cheeburger Cheeburger, a nostalgia-themed eatery in the Waldbaum's shopping center, open since 2012 and known for imaginatively topped burgers, hand-cut fries and milkshakes in a wild array of flavors.
