Chopstix Asian Fusion & Bar has taken up residence in the former Carle Place digs of Lemon Leaf Thai. Situated in a strip mall full of restaurants — LL Dent, Red Lobster and Passione — the place offers a cuisine the others don’t.

It’s an attractive place, done in neutral tones of black and beige, with comfortable upholstered chairs and dramatic lighting. The night I stopped in, the place was hopping, the crew a bit harried; turns out they were down two servers.

Perhaps the kitchen was stressed, too. The wontons in my soup ($2) had good flavor and thin skins but were overcooked and mushy, the broth hyper-salty. Thai mango chicken ($12), a brilliant orange, might have been better had the mangos not been reduced to the consistency of applesauce. And while I liked the mixed vegetables with garlic sauce ($9), I had been hoping for at least some bok choy in a dish that included broccoli, red peppers, onions and mushrooms.

Chopstix is at 227 Old Country Rd., Carle Place, 516-747-8880.
