Chris Algieri fight plus eats at Huntington restaurants
Since light welterweight boxing champ Chris Algieri hails from Huntington, locals will get a chance to cheer on their hometown hero Saturday night at dinner. That's because two Huntington restaurants will be broadcasting the 9 p.m. fight from Macau between Algieri and Manny Pacquiao.
At the newly redecorated and expanded Swallow, the fight will be projected onto a 6-foot screen. You can watch while dining on an array of inventive small plates ranging from butternut squash cappuccino to grilled octopus to soy-braised short ribs. Swallow is at 366 New York Ave. Huntington, 631-547-5388. Reservations are a must.
You’ll also need to reserve seating at Rookie’s Sports Club, where two big projectors and 8 flat-screen TVs are augmented by individual TVs in every booth. Here, wings may be had classic Buffalo style or with any number of exotic sauces. Also on the menu: burgers, sandwiches, ribs and salads. Rookie’s Sports Club is at 70 Gerard St., Huntington 631-923-0424.
But if you'd rather watch the fight at home, it's available on HBO pay-per-view for $59.95 with a pre-show at 7 p.m. and the live event at 9.
