Another barbecue chain looks to be cooked. Today, as I drove past Fatty Beltbuckles in Farmingdale, I noticed a sign posted on the front door. “Closed for summer,” it read. A phone call to the original FB’s in Rocky Point resulted in an “out of service” recording.

It's less than a year since Fatty's opened in Farmingdale. The Wild West-themed place did well with a few items: “piggy wings,” smoky little barbecued pork shanks and “fatty belt burners,” smoked chicken wings with a searing hot sauce. But the cloyingly sweet chili, pulled pork and brisket were problematic. And, it would seem, just the tip of the iceberg.

Long Island eats up barbecue places; only the strongest survive.
