Closed: Yamato in Oakdale

I’m mystified by the latest restaurant closing, Yamato in Oakdale. The friendly little Japanese restaurant received a two-and-a-half star rating last August but, sadly,  won’t see another summer.

I recall with fondness both the yellowtail jalapeño carpaccio and a sushi bar special called orange clam: “One half of a giant clam shell holds live clam and scallop sashimi, the other half, the same shellfish, cooked, in ponzu sauce; the overall experience is like eating the ocean breeze.”
