The corner of Front and Main in Greenport belongs to the Coronet, which has been keeping diners happy and full since 1949.

It's still a time capsule.

Eat here and you see Greenport as a small town and Coronet as its official luncheonette. From the soda fountains and shake blenders to the turquoise booths and counter stools, you feel as if Truman is still president and the Yankees and Dodgers are headed for a subway series.

Have a waffle or pancakes, an omelet with homefries, grilled cheese or meat loaf, maybe a turkey club or tuna melt. And don't forget a sundae, a shake, an egg cream.

Coronet is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The prices will make you nostalgic, too. No credit cards; cash only.

They do have air-conditioning.

Coronet, 2 Front St., Greenport; 631-477-6669.
