Marty Coyle does not hail from the keep-it-simple school of ice-cream making. At Coyle's, the ice cream parlor that he and his wife, Janice, have owned since 1985, his best-selling flavor - and his personal favorite - is chocolate-raspberry truffle, whose demure name belies its elaborate composition: chocolate ice cream blended with raspberry sauce, and then laced with more raspberry sauce and punctuated with chocolate chunks.

And that's restrained when compared to another top seller, monster mash: chocolate ice cream with broken waffle cones, caramel, peanut butter, crunch topping and marshmallow.
