Here’s a hidden gem: Down South Clinton Avenue in Bay Shore, just short of the parking lot adjacent to the bay, sits the aptly named Deli by the Bay.

Housed in what had been a pizzeria until superstorm Sandy, the deli with an enormous menu shows off authentic Mexican fare.

Procopio Tufino Martinez took over the place and redid it with help from his family. His intention was to offer foods that remind him of Puebla, his ancestral home outside of Mexico City.

The modest deli is intriguing, from the Red Bull mini-fridge filled with Jarritos citrus sodas to the shrine to the Virgin Mary, who looms large over a Jesus figurine. The menu runs across the length of the deli in giant photos. And utilitarian places have been replaced by painted pottery.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Deli by the Bay offers tortas, burritos, chimichangas, nachos and tacos — al pastor, carnitas, lengua and more. Prices range from $4 for single tacos to $8 for a burrito to $10 for a platter.

Deli by the Bay is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
