A longtime fixture for pastrami sandwiches and matzo ball soup is gone.

Delsen’s Kosher Delicatessen’s in downtown Bay Shore has closed. It was, for some time, the only kosher deli in southern Suffolk County and, in summertime, used to deliver to the Fire Island ferries.

This loss makes Zan’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterer in Lake Grove and Pastrami N Friends in Commack the last of the kosher and kosher-style deli restaurants in Suffolk County. You'll also find counter service — and a few tables — at Commack Kosher Deli & Market in Commack.

In Nassau County, though, a kosher or kosher-style pastrami sandwich is easier to come by. A few places to find your fatty, peppery pleasure: Bellcrest Kosher Deli in Bellmore,  Pastrami King in Merrick, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterer in Carle Place, Greenvale and Woodbury as well as Kensington Kosher Delicatessen in Great Neck and Lido Kosher Deli in Long Beach.
