Doppio Artisan Bistro brings a very good, casual Italian restaurant to downtown Huntington.
You could ask whether the restaurant hub needs another one, but Doppio does carve its own welcome niche.
It's the offspring of a similar restaurant in Greenwich, Connecticut. The new branch sends out tasty pizzas and pastas, plus panini, salads and a few savory main courses with meat or seafood.
You'll enjoy the meaty lasagna and hand-rolled fusilli in cartoccio, with porcini mushrooms, mascarpone cheese and tomatoes. The thin-crust, blistered pizzas are in red and white varieties. from Margherita to four-cheese. A special layered with potatoes, some guanciale, and Taleggio cheese is one of the standouts.
And the owners did a fine job of transforming the space, once home to Twisted Vine and XO Wine & Chocolate Bar.
