Dragon Gate

A sign in the window of Dragon Gate in Huntington Station nearly caused me to go off the road: "New Noodle Menu." If my watch didn’t say 10 a.m., I’d have burned rubber getting into that parking lot.

Did the next best thing. Grabbed two pals at work and headed over around midday. Truth be told, I’d never had better than a mediocre experience at Dragon Gate, but all that changed with a big bowl of roast chicken Mandarin noodle soup. Fat and supple udon noodles in a fragrant broth topped with a hunk of skin-on roasted chicken hacked into pieces. Friend’s roast pork noodle soup with flat, floppy chow fun noodles was equally delicious. Both soups cost $9.75. Vegetable pad thai, at $10.75, was good, but nowhere in the league of those super soups.

Also on the noodle menu: Wonton soup with either roast pork, roast duck, roast chicken or boneless spareribs ($7.95), as well as chicken, shrimp or vegetable lo mein.
