Farewell to these restaurants

While 2012 saw the birth of so many exciting new restaurants, it has also had its share of losses. The following list doesn’t touch on those restaurants sidelined by superstorm Sandy, since some may be returning.
There were several restaurants reviewed in the Cheap Eats column that didn’t even last out the year. Among them were Flip Pizza in Mineola, D19 in Ronkonkoma, Cedarhurst Cafe in Cedarhurst, Prime Burger in Williston Park and Haven Grill in Port Washington, which wasn't rescued by a Food Network “Restaurant Stakeout.“ Hudson House in Farmingdale didn’t last long enough to get a review. Neither did the gone-in-a-flash 3 Cuzins Asian Bistro in Lake Ronkonkoma or Testaccio at the Gardens in New Hyde Park.
Other departures include Dosa Diner in Hicksville. Amicale in Huntington, which also lost Bonbori and Bad Dawgs. Also closed: Toast & Jamz in Williston Park, Grill 454 in Commack, Scotto’s Wood Fired Pizza in Westbury, Angelina’s Fireshack in New Hyde Park, Lucy’s Bistro in Babylon, which also said adieu to Bistro 111 and Blue Chill. Then, there were Brooks & Porter in Merrick, La Viola in Cedarhurst, Fishery Grill in Glen Head, Buccaneer Crab House in Freeport, Clearwater Charlie’s in Bellmore, Cafe Havana in Smithtown, Costa de Espana in Port Jefferson, Kansas City Smokehouse in East Meadow, Winnie’s Coffee Shop in Bay Shore, and Saffron in Glen Head. Also gone: Painter’s in Bellport, Cafe Taka in Bay Shore, Masala Wok & Grill in Selden, Cattlemen’s Steak House in Lindenhurst, Bob’s Restaurant in Floral Park and Tulip in Great Neck, which also lost old timer Bruce’s Bakery.
