Farmingdale: A new "Taste" at the links
Taste 99 tees off as the new restaurant at Carlyle on the Green, with a view of the celebrated Bethpage Black Golf Course.
Steve Carl's latest establishment in Bethpage State Park transforms the former Oak Room with a New American menu that highlights steak and a series of "small plates" that range from Thai duck wings and Beijing duck wraps to calamari three ways (Buffalo-style, marinara, sweet sesame) and a southwestern quesadilla with chicken and black bean-corn salsa.
Executive chef Phil Abshire also sends out grilled pizzas, mussel pots, salads, and burgers , supplementing filet mignon au poivre, marinated skirt steak, braised short ribs and a steak sandwich.
Dinner is Wednesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. Taste 99 is open for breakfast and lunch every day, starting service at 5:30 a.m. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., with a more casual menu, primarily salads, wraps and burgers.
The 2009 U.S. Open was held at Bethpage Black.
Taste 99 is at 99 Old Quaker Path, Farmingdale; 516-501-9700.
