The newly renovated Farmingdale Diner is the setting for an episode of Food Network’s “The Hungry Games” that airs Monday at 8 p.m.

The series is hosted by chef, restaurateur and “Top Chef All-Stars” winner Richard Blais.

“The episode is all about diner slang,” said manager Steve Sajos, who added that Blais spent five hours at the diner in early September.

With a crisp contemporary look, it's the kind of diner you'd want to linger at, as I found out not too long ago. On a reader's recommendation, I'd stopped in for a Belgian waffle, which had that clean, pure flavor that says "made from scratch." Served hot, it produced an audible crunch. My companion’s Western omelet, a savory meld of  peppers, onions and ham, was another early-morning hit.

The Farmingdale Diner is at 17 Hempstead Tpke., Farmingdale, 516-777-3377.
