Nicole Lawrence and Kathy Gerdes, owners of  FeelGoods Café in St. James, have just renamed their place FeelGoods EdgyBurger Bar. This, even though their new sign isn’t quite ready.

“We were going to change the menu after the first of the year,” said Gerdes. After losing power for a week after superstorm Sandy, though, she and Lawrence decided, after dumping everything, to seize the opportunity to start afresh.

The new focus of the eatery is its proprietary EdgyBurger, which took first place earlier this year in the new-product competition at the New York Restaurant & Foodservice Show at the Javits Center. The burgers, currently, are also sold online and shipped frozen.

FeelGoods, which offers counter service, has moved its burger station to the front of the store. The vegan, gluten-free patties come in a number of flavors, among them, quinoa-butternut squash, sunflower-sesame-kidney bean, spinach veggie and pumpkin-chickpea. There are also “cheesy veggie Edgys” as well as beef, turkey and wild salmon and chicken sausage EdgyBurgers. Prices range from $6.50 to $8.50. House-made sauces, seasoned French fries and yucca fries, as well as vegetable side dishes are available as accompaniments.

The place also has a few craft brews — including a gluten-free beer — and will beer-steam beef burgers on request.

The cafe no longer serves breakfast and is open Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.,  closed Sunday.

FeelGoods EdgyBurger Bar is at 412 Rte. 25A, St., James, 631-390-8545
