On the morning before Bastille Day, a fire has shut Le Soir, one of Long Island's veteran French restaurants.

The blaze began in the 35-year old Bayport restaurant very early this morning and was under control within an hour.  No one was injured. Police are investigating the cause.

Le Soir, at 825 Montauk Hwy., west of Nicolls Road, had kept its cozy, traditional style over the years, with a menu that continued to include classics such as escargots a la Bourguignonne, sweetbreads Grenobloise, steak au poivre, duck a l'orange, onion soup and floating island.

The restaurant has a two-star rating in Newsday.
