Here's something that may surprise all those who drive on Main Street in Farmingdale: A new business has opened!

In the past few years, much of the window shopping along Main Street has consisted of "For Lease" signs. Hard economic times no doubt contributed to the closings of at least six stores in the past year or two.

Finally, there's reason to think things are turning around. Cascarino's, the official pizza of the New York Mets and Citi Field, opened a brick-oven pizzeria and ristorante this past weekend. Located at 302 Main St., in the spot formerly operated by Two Brothers Pizza (I'm going to miss their meatball heroes), Cascarino's brings a grandma's pizza unlike others you may have had. Make sure you try a slice of it, officially listed on the menu as "Cascarino's Famous Grandma Sicilian." The crust is light and airy, so you'll feel much better about yourself when you eat the entire pie in under three minutes.

Their rigatoni marinara is quite a treat as well. The pasta dishes range from $7.95-$14.95 for dinner, with lunch specials ranging from $5.95-$9.95. The Caesar salad could use a little more Caesar dressing, though.

For a small eatery -- just 14 tables -- their menu selection is extensive. Pastas, pizzas, rolls, wraps, sandwiches, salads, burgers and desserts. They also offer a family style menu if you're interested.

What 'Dalers can expect is good food at a very affordable price and excellent service. By the way, Cascarino's delivers and has take-out service. Give it a looksee at originalcascarinos.com
