'Country Cares' at The Emporium

Although the Island took many years to finally fall under the sway of country music, these days the nationally popular genre has a firm hold on the Suffolk County nightlife scene.
Rewind back only a few years ago, and at that time finding a party featuring line-dancing and live honky-tonk acts was no easy feat on Long Island – but in 2011 a number of spots east of Route 110 began to feature weekly hoedowns, and the response was (and is) enormous, with large crowds arriving regularly — and Nov. 29, The Emporium in Patchogue will be harnessing some of that energy to help raise funds for a local cause.
The event is entitled “Country Cares: A Concert For Hurricane Sandy Relief,” and starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, this big bash will present a gaggle of country bands (including Long Island-based groups Rattlesnake Dawn, SixGun, Joe Bayer Band, County Line and The Grand Central) to play throughout the night. In addition, DJ Deuce will be on-hand to spin boot-scooting beats, and there will be free line-dancing from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m.
Age of admission in 21, and there is a $10 donation at the door, with proceeds to benefit the food bank and hunger assistance organization Long Island Cares (licares.org). For more information, check out The Emporium online at theemporiumny.com and facebook.com/EmporiumNY.
