The Suffolk County Farm and Education Center in Yaphank is giving Smorgasburg a run for its money. On Oct. 29, the farm is hosting a Halloween-themed food truck derby where a fleet of mobile eateries will gather for an evening of food and fun.
Trucks will offer a $5 tasting menu plus a full roster of a la carte items. Attendees are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to “Truck-or-Treat” at participating food trucks. Reusable bags for trick-or-treating will be supplied.
Among the participating restaurants on wheels:
Eat Me, Drink Me: Comfort-food dishes from lobster rolls, tacos, burgers and sandwiches to empanadas, salads and grilled cheese.
Chiddy’s Cheesesteaks: Chiddy’s signature cheesesteak comes with onions, peppers, mushrooms, provolone and Cheese Wiz stuffed in a soft hero roll that’s sent from Philly. Cheesesteaks range from ones topped with macaroni-and-cheese, and Buffalo- chipotle- and barbecue- chicken, to a plant-based cheesesteak and build-your-own creations. There’s also hot dogs, fries, empanadas, tacos and quesadillas.
Rolling Smoke Grill: Gargantuan beef “dino ribs” (short ribs on long bones) are a specialty. Other regular menu items include pulled pork or chicken on a brioche bun with slaw and barbecue sauce, grilled smoked sausage with pepper and onions and a mesquite-glazed brisket platter. Sides include French fries, coleslaw and mac-and-cheese.
The Big Black Food Truck: Burgers (cheese; barbecue jerk turkey), tacos,, pulled pork grilled cheese hot dogs, fries and chicken fingers, plus red velvet chicken and waffles and fried Oreos.
Roxy's ice cream truck, Tallmuthashucka (oysters), and Elegant Eats (health-conscious gourmet food) are among other vendors that will be on the grounds. Bubbly Bar LI, a traveling tap trailer, and Riverhead’s übergeek Brewing Co. will be providing adult beverages to those with a valid ID.
Festival admission is $15 for ages 17 and younger, $5 for adults and includes fall crafts, games, hay rides, pumpkin decorating and the corn maze. Tickets can be purchased in advance at or at the door.
