Whether you’re looking for a kick that’s sweet, savory or bold, coffeehouses are a one-stop shop for a bit of atmosphere, a jolt of caffeine and a welcome invitation to linger. Christopher Argudo of Medford, who visits Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Co. almost every Friday for open mic night, says he enjoys the variety of flavors. “They have a really robust menu,” says Argudo, 20. “Especially during the season, when it changes.”

The Maple Mocha ($4.50) is made with maple syrup and real pumpkin. BEYOND THE JAVA: Open mic night runs every Friday from 7:30 to 11 p.m. and gives high school students a safe place to come and hang. Poetry night, held the first Saturday of every month, is a place where seasoned poets or first-timers can come and read their work.
