Halloween horror in Franklin Square

While some people struggle with whether to put more than a pumpkin out on the porch for Halloween, Joe Allocco, of Franklin Square, goes all out — turning his Norbay Street house into what he calls a one-night, full-fledged spook-athon.

From his backyard to several rooms of his residence, everything becomes a part of a themed tour. Last year, the premises were overtaken by zombies. The year before, he installed a haunted walk-through. Each time, much of the visible space was festooned with skulls, tattered rags and other fear-inducing items, all for the dual cause of celebrating the scary day while raising money for charity via donations collected from visitors.

For 2011, Allocco's Franklin Square Horror is upping its terrifying time to two days for the first time, on Saturday, Oct. 29 and Monday, Oct. 31. This year’s tour will be a full 275-foot walk through what he calls a Tomb of Darkness --  including stops such as the Infestation Hallway, the Spider's Lair and the Vampire's Den.

Thrills start at 7 p.m. both nights and will be punctuated by a persona known as The Chainsaw Wielding Maniac, along a bevy of ghouls that includes The Creeper (based on the creature from the “Jeepers Creepers” horror films).

And should your stomach end up roaring louder than any of the monsters in attendance, there will also be a food truck parked outside selling roasted corn and other goodies.
