When it comes to taverns and bars, few happenings inspire special parties like St. Patrick’s Day.
Halloween events always do well, the evening before Thanksgiving is a draw and New Year’s Eve is always a big occasion – but the yearly arrival of March 17 is heralded by the hanging of paper green shamrocks in pub windows as early as mid-February, and the promise of enticing “SPD” (“St. Patrick’s Day”) attractions always start posting on brewhouse chalkboards, calendars and Facebook pages weeks in advance of the upcoming celebration.
Rarely do these events have any connection to the actual religious or cultural connotations of the Feast of Saint Patrick, but for Long Islanders – whether Irish-American or otherwise – heading out to party in the name of the holiday is a traditional of its own.
Virtually every establishment that serves food and drink will have something in the works for SPD, but for those looking for good times in Nassau County, here are some defined options:
