Rose wines are available from many countries, several states, and the East End. Delightful as a spring afternoon, they’re ideal on Mother’s Day.
Seek the subtle, red-fruit driven 2015 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône Rosé ($15), a bargain from the producer of great Rhone reds. The charming, delicate 2015 Maison Belle Claire Côtes de Provence Rosé ($20) brings a peachy taste from the south of France.
The crisp 2015 Hecht & Bannier Côtes de Provence Rosé ($18), with cherry, strawberry and peach notes, calls for a picnic. And the berry-filled 2015 Pascal Jolivet Sancerre Rose ($25) is an elegant, inviting, food-friendly winner. Be cinematic with the aromatic, pink 2015 Mouton Cadet Limited Edition Cannes Film Festival Rose ($13).
Southwest France contributes the appealing, fruity 2015 M. Chapoutier Domaine de Bila-Haut “Les Vignes” Pays d’Oc ($15), a rose full of berries. M. Chapoutier’s refreshing Belleruche Rosé Côtes du Rhône ($16) is a raspberry harvest.
Italy presents the balanced, fresh 2015 Il Poggione Brancato Rosato di Toscana ($19), with citrus and strawberry accents; well-priced, sunny 2015 Castello Monaci Kreos Rosato Salento ($16); and off-dry Ruffino Sparkling Rosé ($15). South Africa offers the handsomely bottled, pink and plummy 2015 Protea Dry Rosé ($18).
American beauties: the ripe, lush berry-citrus 2015 Lynmar Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir ($25); and the reliably bright, refined 2015 Sanford Rose of Pinot Noir ($25), both ready for seafood and spicy fare.
On Long Island, top wineries for rose include Croteaux Vineyards in Southold, which specializes in it; Wolffer Estate in Sagaponack; and Paumanok Vineyards in Aquebogue.
