The EarWaxx Sessions
Over at Amityville Music Hall, “EarWaxx Sessions” is calling on talented Long Islanders to help create and feed an offbeat, beat-driven open mic night.
For the most part, the average session of “Sessions” is driven by local, up-and-coming hip-hop entertainers -- although its web promotions invite “all independent artists” to get involved -- and there have been previous get-togethers where non-rapping poets, acoustic rockers and DJ/ music producers did contribute to the EarWaxx festivities onstage.
Amityville Music Hall’s management says a steady crowd has been arriving regularly to view the weekly Tuesday night showcase -- a reception at which attendance has likely been enhanced by the event’s powerful social media and Internet presence. As of this writing, one can connect with EarWaxx Sessions via such platforms as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and WordPress -- and there’s a robust selection of related clips posted to YouTube as well (be aware that some videos feature adult language). It all comes together to not only give EarWaxx extensive reach, but also to theoretically allow those who participate to receive a healthy dose of online exposure.
The presentation’s age of entry is 18 and over; those with college ID pay only a $1 cover charge (versus the usual $10 general admission, or $5 for those who arrive with a personal business card). Anyone looking to participate can sign up upon arrival, but must also pay an added $1 to perform a single song (it is preferred that interested parties have their backing music in mp3 format, on a flash drive); doors open after 8 p.m.
