The Hamptons Poker Challenge

There was a time when it seemed most people solely played poker in their basements -- a notion that invokes visions of flipping chips, warm drinks and wafting cigar smoke while sitting in a dark room with wood paneling and tiny windows. However, today's game is a seriously hot, glitzy pastime, and from Vegas and Atlantic City to TV tournaments and charity events, it is often a heavy draw for party people and card sharks alike.
However, as gambling is illegal on LI, opportunities to play and wager are locally limited -- but if you'd like to get in on a major match that’s set to take place in the lavish Hamptons, consider the special tournament being held on Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Southampton Social Club (SSC).
From 5 p.m.-9 p.m., the SSC is hosting the third annual “Hamptons Poker Challenge.” Naturally, actual betting for personal gain is a no-no, but the stakes are still definitely high as the night benefits “A New Leaf for Diabetes” (anewleaffordiabetes.com) -- an organization that works to increase diabetes awareness while raising funds for research purposes.
Admission is $150, with all players also scoring free cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, as well as a session of beats by DJ Cameron Smalls. Ticket purchases can be made at hpc3.eventbrite.com; for more information, call 631-287-1400 or visit southamptonsocialclub.com.
