'The Seattle 4' grunge tribute at Napper Tandy’s

Long Island has a healthy retro scene for sure – between frequent new wave parties, performances from freestyle artists and DJs who spin classics, the term “what’s old is new again” certainly holds true in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
But . . . what about grunge rock?
It may be hard for some to imagine, but the days of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden dominating the radio (and a pre-Snookie MTV) are more than 20 years old. And while ripped jeans, heavy guitars, flannel and sizeable coifs of untreated hair have been adopted by other fashion trends, the grunge rock era has yet to see a full-fledged revival . . . but that doesn’t mean the music isn’t there to find.
Sure, jukeboxes are always good starts, but for those who would like a live taste of the Seattle-born movement, Napper Tandy’s in Smithtown is featuring four different cover bands that specialize in the genre – all in one night.
On Saturday, Jan. 28 (starting at 9 p.m.), a quartet of groups will provide a night of flashback grunge hits. Opening is the Nirvana tribute band Lounge Act, followed by Last Exit (Pearl Jam), Sludge Factory (Alice in Chains) and Jesus Christ Pose (Soundgarden). No ticket purchase required, just a $10 cover for a 21-and-over crowd.
