When it comes to electronic dance music (EDM), sometimes the big hits aren't always a draw for all of its enthusiasts.

For fans of conventional electronic dance (pop music remixes, contemporary house; think current Grammy winners Daft Punk), most clubs on Long Island offer nights featuring DJs that spin the sort of tracks heard on radio mixshows and other popular music outlets -- but there are also those people who prefer a more offbeat sort of EDM beat, and for those folks, the alternative side of dance can be extremely hard to find represented in LI nightspots.

One of those “offbeat” subgenres of EDM is dubstep -- a style powered by frenzied pitches, atypical arrangements and the deepest of bass (think of Grammy winning musician/ producer/ DJ Skrillex), and despite its lack of pop chart success, it has a solid following -- but unfortunately for its local devotees, finding large dubstep events anywhere relatively nearby LI usually requires a trip into Brooklyn or Manhattan.

However, Long Island does have Get Down! Productions -- an event company that specializes in EDM nights -- and on Friday, Feb. 14, it has a bash ready to roll that is scheduled to use the skills of close to 20 different DJs, with dubstep the main sound of the evening.

Starting at 8 p.m. this affair (the second edition of Get Down’s “Love Shack” Valentine’s Day party) will take place at Fun Zone in Farmingdale, and guests will absolutely be able to use the bumper cards, bounce house and other rides the amusement space offers during the day. However, there will also be special decor hung to mark the occasion, as well as LCD screens flashing mood-setting visuals, festive lighting and lots of dancing space -- with DJs (including local talents Frank Clementi, Tom Groove and Kryst0z) spinning dub (and probably some tracks from other niche genres, like techno, deep house and trance) in different rooms throughout the night.

Tickets are available online at eventbrite.com for $20, with limited tickets also to be sold at the door for $25; $30 after 12 a.m. Age of admission is 18, but alcohol will be sold to guests 21 and older. For more information, check out Get Down! online at facebook.com/getdownli.
