Weekend observations

Some sights and sounds from around the Island this past weekend:

. . . Spotted a vanity license plate on a Mercedes-Benz on the Southern State that conveyed "Twisted Sister." Yes, I pulled up next to it. No, it wasn't Dee Snider. Yes, I was furious. No, I'm not gonna take it anymore.

. . . If you're looking for a microcosm of all the issues that plague Long Island -- affordable housing, keeping young people on the Island, etc. -- here it is: At least three of the items of the dollar-value menu at the Arby's inside Broadway Mall in Hicksville cost more than $1.

. . . The kid working at Sunset Plaza Bagels in North Babylon was nice, friendly and informative. Pretty good bagel, too!
