What doesn't knock you out makes you strong, so to speak.

The Plattduetsche Park Biergarten hosts the first in a series of Bavarian-style, strong-man contests tomorrow: hoist a liter of Hofbrau beer with one arm straight out, parallel to the floor.

Not an easy thing to do.

This summery event, open to those 21 and older, is part of the U.S. Masskrugstemmen Championship qualification round. Yes, there is a championship for this. But, equally important, the friendly and seasonal Biergarten is the site. Hofbrau is one of the sponsors.

One finalist gets to represent the region at the finals in Manhattan on Sept. 25, dovetailing with the Oktoberfest  celebration in Central Park. The ultimate winner receives a trip for two to Munich, including airfare, hotel, tour of the Hofbrau brewery and dinner at the Hofbrauhaus.

The Biergarten, popular for German brews on tap and German food, will hold additional contests on July 30 and Aug. 6, with a semifinal on Sept. 3.

Plattduetsche Park is at 1132 Hempstead Tpke., Franklin Square. For more information, call 516-354-3131.
