Rein, the restaurant at the Garden City Hotel, will donate all its February breakfast profits to the Nassau chapter of the American Red Cross for earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti. Chef Steven De Bruyn's menu will include a dish based on a recipe from the mother of pastry chef Lucie Lemy, who was born in Haiti. Rein's breakfast choices typically include a range of egg dishes paired with sirloin steak; and poached eggs with smoked salmon, as well as fruits and housemade granola. The Haitian addition is called "labouyi bannan," a beverage of pureed plantains, vanilla beans, sugar and evaporated milk. It is similar to porridge. Breakfast is served at Rein from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday to Friday; at to 11 a.m. on weekends. The Garden City Hotel is at 45 Seventh St., Garden City; 516-747-3000.
