Ah, romance.
The Garden City Hotel hosts a quintet of Valentine celebrations this weekend, from Sunday brunch to overnighters complete with in-room Champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.
You also can choose a Valentine's Day dinner at Rein, the hotel's restaurant. Chef Steven De Bruyn's dinner on Monday, Feb. 14 is $95 per person. The price includes a bottle of Champagne, keepsake Champagne flutes, a box of housemade chocolate truffles and a rose for each couple. There will be a strolling violinist for serenades. Reservations are necessary.
The menu choices on Valentine's Day, and for a Saturday-and-Sunday "let's fall in love" dinner ($75 plus tax and tip), include a cocktail of lemongrass-poached shrimp and crab claws, creamy potato-leek soup with a lobster timbale, Chateaubriand for two, wild salmon, roasted baby chicken breasts, and a lamb trio of rack, loin and shank.
For $299 plus tax, you may sample the "love and dreams" couple's retreat: overnight accommodations and breakfast for two, available Saturday, Sunday and Monday. For $399: "all for love" with accommodations and dinner, avaliable on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday brunch is $69 plus tax and tip. Among the selections: a seafood special of lobster, snow crab claws, jumbo shrimp, smoked salmon and whitefish; sushi; dim sum; pastas; prime rib; omelets; Belgian waffles and French toast, washed down with unlimited Mimosas, Screwdrivers and Bloody Marys.
