It doesn't get more out-of-the-way than Gasparro's, a new brick oven pizzeria embedded in the residential waterfront community of San Remo.

Indoors, it looks like your average pizza place. But if you take your slice and soda outside, across the road, you'll find shaded picnic tables overlooking the tranquil Nissequogue River.  A short distance out on the water, you'll also see a little barge set up with a couple of tables and chairs.

I questioned the guy behind the counter and was told that the owners were waiting for permits to put up a floating pier.

What I had at Gasparro's was a slice of Grandma pie with a crisp nutty-tasting crust and a vibrant basil-mozzarella-tomato topping. Since the menu also offers a few basic entrees (chicken parm)  and pastas (manicotti), I can imagine that barge becoming an ideal spot for an inexpensive but romantic dinner date. I was happy enough at one of those picnic tables.
